about

2Seas Session

Filmed live at a secret East Sussex location only a day after returning to the UK after a run of European shows, the Mike Ross band reveal their sensitive side here with six tracks that showcase some downhome highlights of Mike’s back catalogue.

Kicking off with regular show starter ‘The Reason This Railroad’, rendered here in it’s full three-dimensional ‘Neil meets Steve’ glory with an understated, phase-driven psychedelic middle section. A plaintive, Parisian ‘Young Man’ (the second of three tracks taken from The Clovis Limit Pt.1 album) suits the mood of the session perfectly with Lindsey Oliver’s deft yet resonant double bass locking in to the rock solid rhythm pounded out by Rick Kent on his ‘Ringo’ spec Ludwig drum set, specially stripped back for this occasion but no less perfect and powerful. Deep cut ‘Ships Pass Me By’ from Origin Story trucks along like a midnight train with a soaring solo and an impassioned vocal. The mood lifts somewhat surprisingly for a surprisingly ‘fierce-yet-laid-back’ canter through Clovis 2’s ‘None Of Your Business’, replete with another psychedelic interlude thanks to the 6/8 solo section before we head straight along Jackson Highway to Muscle Shoals, Alabama for a masterclass in tough yet tender southern soul ‘Grow In Your Garden’. Sixth song Harpo (from Jenny’s Place) sings us home, the final strains of the relentless boogie beat echo across the marshes as the MRB head out on the road again, leaving us with our spirits soaring and our minds blown.

Releasing for a limited time only as the latest instalment in the Mike Ross ‘Road Case’ series of live albums, don’t miss your opportunity to grab a copy of this uplifting and inspiring session.
